Call our teamWith 15 years of experience, MIC offers Locum Insurance tailored for Medical Practices. Developed in consultation with GP’s and Practice Managers, our policies, Choices and Simplicity, cater to diverse practice needs. The key difference lies in how claims are assessed.
We have been providing Locum Insurance to Medical Practices for over 15 years with same underwriter and have a track record of paying claims for over 95% of claims received. MIC Locum Insurance has been designed in consultation with GP’s and Practice Managers to accommodate the needs of all practices.
There are two types of policy available, Choices Locum Insurance and Simplicity Locum Insurance. The differences between the policies are shown below. The key difference being how a claim is assessed, such as using a pre-exisiting/absence basis or the terms applied to the policy at inception.
Each individual is medically underwritten using our individual application form. Specific terms are given for each individual to be insured, even if it is a group policy.
The terms offered will apply to that person at renewal, even if they have claimed or their health has changed, meaning we will not impose additional terms for the initial benefit requested. This is what we call ‘Continuity of Cover’, a method pioneered by MIC and widely regarded as the gold standard of cover for an annually renewable policy.
As the name indicates, this our simple to quote, apply and buy insurance product. Suited more for the cost driven client, it can provide all the covers above in a single policy, with no option of selecting the cover type.
The product is underwritten on a pre-exisiting or previous absence history basis, of 10 consectutive days in the last 5 years. Meaning, that if your client has been absent form work for 10 consecutive days in the last 5 years for any reason this will be excluded from the cover. Cover can be taken out by completing a simple group declaration, signed by the administrator for group policies and individual applications for individuals (one to two people).
Locum Insurance is a specialised type of insurance designed to cover the costs associated with hiring a temporary replacement, known as a locum, when a key member of a practice or business, such as a doctor, dentist, or other professional, is unable to work due to illness, injury, or other reasons. This insurance is particularly important in medical and dental practices where the absence of a key professional can significantly impact the business’s ability to operate and generate income.
In a medical practice, the person or team most frequently responsible for filing insurance claims and handling insurers’ payments is typically the Medical Billing and Coding Specialist or the Medical Billing Department. These professionals are tasked with managing the financial aspects of the practice related to insurance claims.
Medical Insurance Consultants Ltd is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and is entered on the Financial Services Register under reference 309026.
We are committed in providing a first class service to all our clients, not just when you take out a policy, but throughout the life of your policy. We make sure that you have the support and advice needed when it comes to claiming.
We have been operating for over 30 years specialising in the insurance needs of healthcare providers and professionals. Our aim is to continue to develop, innovate, improve and reduce the cost of insurance for all our clients and future clients.
