Fee-for-Service

A payment system for health care where the provider is paid for each service rendered rather than a pre-negotiated amount for each patient.

Fee Schedule

A complete listing of fees used by health plans to pay doctors or other providers.

Flexible Benefit Plan

A benefits package allowing an employee to choose from a range of benefit choices.

Formulary

A list of certain drugs and their proper dosages. Under most health plans, better benefits are provided for formulary drugs than are provided for non-formulary drugs.

Female infertility

Female infertility refers to the inability to conceive naturally. The term "subfertility" may also be used, indicating a delay in achieving pregnancy. If you're attempting to conceive, you may require additional assistance to enhance your chances of becoming pregnant.

Fever in children

The normal body temperature of children can vary from child to child and fluctuate naturally throughout the day. However, fever in children is defined as a temperature of 38°C (100.4°F) or higher. Fever is medically referred to as pyrexia.

Fibroids

Fibroids are non-cancerous growths that can form in the walls of the uterus. They can vary in size and number. If fibroids are asymptomatic, treatment may not be necessary. However, if treatment is required, options include medication and surgery.

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterised by widespread pain throughout the body. Symptoms may also include sleep disturbances, fatigue, and cognitive difficulties. While there is no cure for fibromyalgia, various management strategies can help alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life.

Food allergy

A food allergy is when your body’s immune system reacts to a certain food, such as eggs or nuts, as if they were harmful. This can affect your body in different ways. If your allergy is severe, the reaction can be life-threatening.

Fractures (broken bones)

A fracture refers to a broken or cracked bone, which can be partial or a complete break. While bones have the ability to repair themselves, most fractures require treatment to alleviate pain and ensure proper alignment during the healing process.

Front (anterior) knee pain

Pain located at the front of the knee is often referred to as anterior knee pain, with "anterior" indicating "front." Various factors can contribute to this type of knee pain. However, in many cases, simple self-care measures can effectively alleviate the pain.

Frontotemporal dementia

Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is a form of dementia that impacts the brain, resulting in alterations in behaviour, personality, speech, and language. It is a prevalent cause of dementia in individuals under the age of 65.

Frozen shoulder

Frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is characterized by pain and stiffness in the shoulder joint. Painkillers and exercises can help alleviate symptoms. Your doctor or physiotherapist can suggest additional treatments if necessary.

Fundoplication

Fundoplication is a surgical procedure used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GORD). During this operation, the upper portion of the stomach is wrapped around the lower oesophagus, which is the tube responsible for carrying food from the mouth to the stomach. This helps prevent stomach acid from refluxing into the oesophagus.

Fungal skin infections

Fungal skin infections, such as athlete's foot, ringworm, and fungal nail infections, are common occurrences. These infections are typically mild and respond well to treatment. However, in some cases, they may become more severe or resistant to treatment.

Glandular Fever

Glandular fever, also known as infectious mononucleosis, is a viral infection characterised by symptoms like sore throat, swollen glands, and fatigue. It primarily affects teenagers and young adults. Fortunately, most individuals recover from the infection within two to four weeks.
